C H R Y S A L I S - D e f i n i t i o n

This little known late 1960s folk rock band, based based out of Ithaca, NY, had only this one release. Powered by the wonderful vocals of Nancy Nairn, who sounds like a cross between Joni Mitchell; Judy Collins; and Mama Cass, she was never heard from again after this release. Nancy alternates lead vocals with band leader, Spider Barbour, who went on with solo work and with Martha Velez, an Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention. The writing has a particularly sophisticated sense of psychology for the Jazz & Folk styles of this era, with influences coming from Zappa; The Beatles; and the psychedelic paisley flower power movement. The songs are: Cynthia Jerome; Lacewing; 30 Poplar; Baby, Let Me Show You Where I Live; Fitzpatrick Swanson; Piece Of Sun; Summer In Your Savage Eyes; Dr Root's Garden; Farther's Getting Old; What Will Become Of The Morning; April Grove; and Lake Hope. With Jon Sabin; Paul Album; Dahaud Shaar; and Ralph Kotkov. This is an original 1968 pressing on MGM RECORDS (4547) with gatefold jacket. There's some minor color rubbing and a delete hole to the lower left corner, otherwise the jacket is in overall near Mint condition. The record labels & playing surfaces all appear overall beautiful near MINT! Also alailabe is a rare MGM Yellow Label promo in EX+ condition!
